The Alabaster Lounge
"A contemporary reimagining of the traditional Saudi Majlis."
Commissioned as a private annex in Riyadh's Olaya District, this Majlis represents a dialogue between modern minimalism and cultural heritage. The layout follows a symmetrical grid, referencing traditional square spatial structures, but opens up with large glass elements overlooking a desert garden.
Bespoke alabaster columns house integrated custom lighting, allowing the stone to glow from within at sunset. Acoustics were meticulously engineered using micro-perforated linen panels behind custom woodwork to create a quiet, tranquil atmosphere for conversation.
Merging symmetrical geometries with backlit stone screens that filter the intense Riyadh sunlight into soft, ambient golden hues.
A modern Majlis must honor cultural roots of gathering and hospitality while offering clean, silent, minimal architectural peace.
